Above is a sampling of commissioned work that Don has recently completed. Please read on for details on having him do a portrait of your loved one.

Commissioning a portrait

Don has been drawing and creating beautiful portraits most of his life. Upon retirement in 2016, he set up his easel once again and rediscovered his joy in drawing and painting.

Although he has spent much time working in oils, his favorite mediums are pencil, charcoal and soft pastel.

Are you interested in commissioning a painting?

All finished works will measure approximately 11 x 14 in
size so it will easily mat and frame in a 16x20 frame.

All paintings are $200.00 plus shipping
Framed and matted $275.00 plus shipping
There is no obligation to purchase when finished. Don can paint a beautiful likeness of a dog but only you can decide if he captured "your" dog.

Please email Don at dsyoung92@frontier.com
for more information.

What makes a good photograph for drawing?

Painting a portrait of your loved one that has life and feeling will often depend on the photograph that you submit. It's often best to give the artist several photos to chose from so they can pick the one that speaks to them.

Some things to consider when picking photos:
Well lighted subjects
Portraits are nice but your loved one doing an activity that they enjoy is more interesting
Look at the angles. If you are looking down on the subject the finished portrait may not be as good.

Email high quality images to the artist. The smaller the file size, the more details that are lost.
